Simon Carr was born in New York City in 1953. He received his MFA from Parsons School of Design and studied with Leland Bell, Paul Resika, and John Heliker. Carr has been in numerous solo and group exhibitions, most recently at The Painting Center, Prince Street Gallery and Long Island University's Selena Gallery, and has been commissioned to paint for various public projects. His recent paints, drawings and prints have focused on street scenes and subway scenes in New York City. He currently lives in New York and teaches Drawing at the Borough of Manhattan Community College, part of CUNY. *This painting was part of a series based on texts by Catherine Pozzi, the 20th century French poet. It was exhibited in April 1996 for the Maison Francaise at New York University in conjunction with new translations of Pozzi's work by translator and artist Sophie Hawkes.
